Kingston High School Arts

An introduction:

With 2400 students, Kingston High School has a vital and deep arts program.  Students can take advantage of traditional studio media such as Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture as well as Craft, Ceramics and Jewelry.  Kingston still has a traditional dark room where students can immerse themselves in black and white, silver photography.  The high school is also equipped with a digital lab, where they can gain an understanding of digital photography and computer imagery.  Our dedicated Seniors are able to put their knowledge to the text in Senior Seminar where they prepare an exit portfolio as well as develop and present a thesis project. K.H.S.  is also the home to Reason and Rhyme, an award winning art and literary magazine that highlights the diverse expressions of our students.

Because of our location our students are also lucky to be able to make use of two vital, local, art resources. K.H.S. has been working with Women's Studio Workshop for over 20 years.  WSW is the largest publisher of artist handmade books in the country.  WSW offers our students the opportunity to work in their studios with resident artists, exploring intaglio printmaking, silkscreen and hand papermaking.  R&F encaustics lives right down the street from our high school and we have developed a collaboration which offers our students the opportunity to work in their workshops as well.  Richard Frumes, the owner has also been working with our Chemistry for Artist class, helping to expand our students understanding of the history and science of color, through on site presentations at our school followed by a tour of his facility and time in there workshops.
